“Do you know who I am?” the 81-year old actress yelled to the police officers once she arrived at the Knutford Police Station, in Cheshire, England, last April. The Coronation Street veteran was there to demand the release of her daughter who had been arrested for driving under the influence. She ended also being arrested for the same thing, but pleaded not guilty. Until the other day that is, when the judge gave her a 12-month driving ban and a £3000 ($4,500) fine.
Call it pride, celebrity madness or the mother instinct, but stating that she’s a famous actor didn’t seem to have helped her too much, since instead of getting her daughter home she managed to get herself into prison. Turns out drinking while driving runs in the family, doesn’t it?

You might have not heard of the British actress, but in UK she is quite famous. People know Barbara Knox rather as Rita Tanner after the character she has been playing in the ITB soap ever since 1972. Knox made her professional debut in 1962 at the Oldham Coliseum Theater and took several other minor roles along the way, but her veteran acting in the famous TV show is what made her really popular.

In 2006, she won the British Soap Award for Best On-Screen Partnership with Malcom Hebden, having previously received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2004 ceremony. She was made an MBE in the 2010 Queen’s Birthday Honors.

So, yes, she is quite respected in the industry, but the law is the law and you shouldn’t ever try to avoid it. That’s pretty much the message here and we have to admit we sort of like that the police never really makes differences between celebrities and regular people when it comes to driving. Well, at least most of the cases.
