To the best of our knowledge, Ferrari hasn’t produced a three-wheeler so far, Sheik special orders included. Nevertheless, a 458 GT3 racecar that took part in the Lone Star Le Mans over the weekend was turned into just such a machine, albeit for a brief amount of time.
Sure, racing crashes that see machines losing a wheel happen all the time, but this case was far from it. We are talking about the 458 racecar run by Risi Competizione, which went into the pits, but receive almost all the care it required.

While each of the pit crew members was doing his job as fast as possible, the man handling the hydraulic jack hose dropped the car before the fourth wheel was back on.

The guy saw one of his colleague throwing a wheel over the pit wall (that was the wheel that had been replaced) and assumed the job had been covered. Thus, the man removed the compressed air line, with the car dropping instantly - the jack system is embedded into the vehicle for reduced operation time.

At first, nobody could believe their eyes and it too a brief moment for the crew to realize what had happened and bring the situation back under control. Yes, these are trained people we are talking about, but they are conditioned to perform their routines as fast as possible, with such unexpected situations sometimes managing to take them by surprise.

The Texan team’s #62 racecar quickly returned to the racing action, but the move did cost them a few precious seconds. It also put the machine at risk. Nevertheless, the Prancing Horse didn't seem to be affected by the error of its guardian angels.

People make mistakes, it’s true, but, unfortunately, we’re pretty sure this endurance racing error will be remembered for quite some time now.
