Exactly two years and two days ago we were informing you about Daimler's plan to cooperate on the construction of a hydrogen refueling network in Germany, with total investments reaching approximately 350 million euros. As it happens, Daimler has just announced the opening of the fifth H2 filling station in Baden-Wuerttemberg, thus continuing the partnership started in 2013.

The cool thing is that the new hydrogen fuel pump is actually part of a Total multi-energy filling station, from where you can now fill your car with gasoline, diesel, hydrogen or charge it with electricity, depending on what you drive.

A Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-Cell was symbolically fueled with hydrogen from the station by the head of the State Ministry for the Environment, Climate and Energy, Helmfried Meinel.

“In the past three years, the Environment Ministry has invested a total of four million euros in promoting Baden-Wuerttemberg’s H2 infrastructure in in the form of hydrogen filling stations and facilities for producing and storing renewable hydrogen through the H2BW innovation programme. To continue encouraging the development of this infrastructure, we have launched another programme called ‘Power to Hydrogen', with which we are supporting the large-scale production, distribution and use of hydrogen from renewable sources. The state is making a total of 1.4 million euros available for this purpose in 2015 and 2016,”
the Ministerial Director said on the occasion.

The Daimler-Linde partnership will invest another 20 million euros in the construction of 20 new hydrogen filling stations by 2016. The timing is just right, since Mercedes-Benz is expected to launch another production fuel-cell vehicle in 2017. According to Daimler, the car will have a range of about 400 to 500 kilometers (248 to 310 miles). Currently, the German hydrogen filling station network consists of only 19 public spots, but that number will increase to 50 during 2016, over half having been built by the Daimler-Linde partnership.
