Did David Spade Buy a $900,000 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona?

We can’t remember much about Joe Dirt, the little comedy movie David Spade starred in about 14 years ago. Since we’re living in the “remake age”, however, it appears this too will get a sequel, as it was recently announced Christopher Walken himself will once again join the cast. There’s one detail we do remember and that is the car the 50-year old comedian was driving in the film.

Sure Joe Dirt’s Daytona didn’t have much to do with the car he reportedly bid for this Friday at Mecum Auctions. No, this was a complete mess, with several colors, barely keeping its bumpers together, rather resembling to what an auto-Frankenstein would create in his laboratory late at night. Only one of the headlights was working and the only detail making the car look like an actual Daytona probably was its racing spoiler.

Nevertheless, it appears that Spade was quite fond of the car model since he spent quite a fortune on a restored collectable. If the rumors are true, then we’re talking about that beautiful 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona we recently wrote about. A true masterpiece of the real muscle cars days, the HEMI-powered Dodge Charger has nothing but craftsmanship all over it.

The lowest-mile original 4-speed Hemi Daytona was quite a surprise among the Mecum Kissimmee 2015 auction. Powered by a 426 cu.in. (7-liter) HEMI V8 that develops 425 horsepower belongs to a very rare club with about 20 members, since of the 503 Daytonas ever created, only 70 were HEMI-powered and just 20 combined that with a manual box.

$900,000 is what David Spade allegedly spent for this puppy and we can’t beg to differ considering it’s one heck of an American collectable. Again, if the reports are true, we can’t but congratulate the comedian for his new toy and wish him to drive safe and enjoy.
