Andrea Dovizioso managed to stay in the lead in the first two Free Practice sessions, and this is the absolute best he can do ahead of Ducati's "home round".
As if we needed another proof of how competitive the new Ducati Desmosedici GP15 was, Dovizioso managed to stay in front of both Jorge Lorenzo in FP1 and Marc Marquez in FP2. Desmodovi lapped around the Mugello circuit in 1'47.479 and at the end of the day he is 0.164s ahead of Marc Marquez.
Lorenzo ran in his traditional, constant manner and now sits 0.209s behind the reigning champion. The other Ducati factory rider, Andrea Iannone, was one of the few riders who did not improve their lap times in FP2, but he still is fourth at the end of the day. Iannone is followed by Smith, who manged to squeeze in front of a very fast Cal Crutchlow.
Suzuki Ecstar's Aleix Espagaro proved that there is more to him than meets the eye, and rode into the seventh position at the end of the afternoon practice despite his injuries. The top ten was completed with Scott Redding, Valentino Rossi and Pol Espargaro.
As to the top speeds this Friday, the accolades go to Hector Barbera. The Avintia rider went north of 350 km/h (217.6 mph) on his Ducati and is probably the fastest MotoGP rider that's been clocked officially.

Dani Pedrosa was 11th in FP1 and 13th in FP2, and ended Friday outings 14th-fastest, obviously still cautious after his 3-round absence caused by the arm pump surgery.
