What happens when you pit a more powerful all-wheel drive car against a more modest rear-wheel drive one on a drag strip? Not a lot of surprises can happen, right? Well, that’s why tuning exists in this world.
The new BMW M4 uses a smaller engine than its predecessor, one that makes more power and torque though thanks to forced induction. While the old E92 M3 had a 4-liter V8 making 420 HP and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque under the bonnet, the new M4 has a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder biturbo unit making 431 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque. Notice the differences?

Admittedly, the new Bimmer is a lot slimmer too and has a better overall chassis while the old S65 engine can be turned into a real monster with the help of a supercharger. What makes the M4 special though, is its character and the fact that it can easily be upgraded.

It’s the case of the one found in the video below that takes on more powerful rivals on the drag strip. According to the video, its engine was upgraded to make 550 HP thanks to a Stage 2 kit.

In the first race, it goes up against a 700 HP Audi RS7 that gets the jump on the Bimmer thanks to its all-wheel drive quattro system. However, it’s a bit surprising that despite the extra 150 HP, it fails to keep itself ahead, the BMW catching up and even winning the race in the end.

The second run is done against a more ‘traditional’ rival, the C63 AMG Coupe (w204). This one was also upgraded to squeeze 700 HP out of the 6.2-liter V8 under the bonnet and this time, things were a lot closer. Who won? Well, we won’t spill any spoilers here, you’ll just have to watch the video.
