Elia Renault Twingo GT with 111 PS Has a 185 KM/H Top Speed

Tuning a regular Renault engine is about as pointless as trying to herd kittens. However, German specialist Elia has unveiled a little something-something for the new Twingo.

As you all know, this latest Twingo model has the engine in the back and shares its underpinnings with the smart forfour. That's all well and good, but there are only two engines available, and they don't have the punch of the older Twingo model that went all the way up to 133 PS in RS-spec.

While Renault and smart engineers continue to collaborate on the development of a Twingo GT model, tuners have taken matters into their own hands. For example, Elia has just unveiled its 111 PS version of the 0.9 TCe, a small 3-cylinder turbo lump.

Details are as hard to come by as the photos, but the first is that it installed a new exhaust system and ECU map to boost output by 21 PS. At the same time, the top speed has been raised to 185 km/h, although that's unlikely to blow people away.

Although this is now the fastest Twingo on the market, we can't ignore the fact that a Skoda Fabia 1.2 TSI offers more standard performance and space for roughly the same amount of money.

But that's not the full extent of the transformation. Elia installed a very nice 2-pipe sportback stainless steel exhaust system to ensure a more engaging sound. There's also a new 3D rear with a carbon fiber look and a more prominent trunk lid spoiler. New stripes with TWIN 4 FUN logos remind us of the awesome V6-powered concept that previewed the Twingo. Finally, Elia also fitted a front lip spoiler and blacked out the chrome front emblem.

Everything we've mentioned so far only costs €990 to buy. To complete the picture, 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels can be optioned for €600, although you can go for a 17-inch set with 215/35 rubber as well.
