Alpina decided to celebrate its 50th anniversary at the Geneva Motor Show that is currently in full swing. However, their updated cars were also introduced as part of the company’s aim at keeping their customers up to date with the latest from BMW.
Since the manufacturer launched a facelift for the 6 Series range late last year, the tuner had to follow suit and is now introducing their ‘new’ Alpina B6 Gran Coupe xDrive Biturbo. Yeah, they like to make their car names long like that...
The big news about the updated version is not some exterior styling tweak or a new option for the interior (even though, the facelift does get some nice new headlights). The big news is under the bonnet.
That’s where the Alpina people have been hard at work to bring out the best and they succeeded. The 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo monster was taken from 450 HP and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque to no less than 600 HP and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque.
Since it also has xDrive, the zero to sixty sprint takes just 3.6 seconds. That leaves the current M6 models in the dust, to be completely honest. However when it comes to handling and agility, the debate is still on.
This beautiful and powerful model will be on display as part of BMW’s line-up at the upcoming New York Auto Show that is scheduled to kick off on April 1st at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, 655 West 34th street, Manhattan.
Furthermore, alongside it, you’ll find the 1975 BMW 3.0CSL that won the 12 Hours of Sebring, bringing the Germans’ first major motorsports victory in the US and starting off a beautiful legacy.
That proper racing car used to have 430 HP coming out of an inline 6-cylinder 3.5-liter motor that was, simply put, a beast. Imagine that the car itself weighed under 1 ton and had no electrical gimmicks like the ones we see today.
For a better comparison, the BMW stand will also feature a 2015 Z4 GTLM, the car used today by the BMW Team RLL in the Tudor United Sports Car Championship series. This one, has a 4.4-liter V8 making 480 HP.
