Faraday Porteur E-Bike Is Stylish and Very Expensive

Faraday Porteur is another project which got funded on Kickstarter, and now the creators of this bicycle announced that the two-wheelers are being shipped. With the interest these stylish rides drew, it looks like the first batch will not take too long to become sold out.

Even though one can definitely buy other e-bicycles and even motorcycles for the price of a Faraday Porteur, we'd be really surprised if these neat bikes don't sell big.

At $3,500 (€3,280) base price and equally expensive accessories, this is definitely not going to be the first choice for the average buyer. More of a fashion item than a practical vehicle for daily rides in all sorts of conditions and on various surfaces, the Faraday Porteur fails to impress us with features.

20 miles of pedal assist is modest, to say the least

Faraday Porteur can provide up to 20 miles (32 km) of assisted pedaling, and this is way too little (with the last sentence in need of being repeated several times). The lithium battery packs only 240 Wh, and we can't ask for anything where there is none.

The hub motor is located in the front wheel while the rear hub houses an 8-speed Shimano transmission. Both wheels come with disc brakes, and the belt drive will eliminate grime and grease from your life, as well as the need to clean and lube the chain.

Porteur also comes with thumb-actuated switching gear to turn pedal assist off or engage the boost function for easier hill climbing. There is no need for a throttle, as the Faraday Porteur adapts to the pedaling force of the rider. A LED headlight is also stock.

Bamboo fenders and classic vintage colors

Buying a Faraday bike gets you very stylish bamboo fenders, with Classic White and British Racing Green as color options. Two chargers are supplied with the bike, most likely because of the poor range, so you can keep one at home and one at work.

The bike can be recharged in under three hours, and this is neat. The manufacturers don't provide the bike with too many accessories, but you can buy them separately. At $225 (€211) and $125 (€117) for the front and rear racks, respectively, the total cost of the Porteur leaves the "shopping" zone and enters into the "investment" territory.

Well, even so, if style and the fashionable vibe are things you value even when it comes to bicycles, then you should order a Faraday Porteur before they are all sold out.
