The newly created hypercar league includes just three names at the moment if you ask me: the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder and the Ferrari LaFerrari. Leaving aside the fact that the Italian has to most ... controversial name, all of them are blazing fast and feature specs well beyond anything you could possibly need.
However, the Porsche has one slight advantage. No, we’re not referring to the specs or anything like that but instead to the fact that it can take its roof down and allow you to enjoy some open top riding in the summer. That’s something that neither the McLaren or the Ferrari can brag with.
Of course, reaching speeds of 200 mph (320 km/h) in an open top car might not be the best idea but these beasts can also be enjoyed at lower speeds. Wouldn’t it be nice to have the wind in your hair while doing it?
It sure would. That’s why master automotive manipulator Theophilus Chin put together a rendering of the Ferrari LaFerrari in a Spider version to celebrate the Lunar New Year (that starts today, by the way).
It sure looks good but will Ferrari put it in production? Well, we haven’t seen any spyshots or any prototypes out testing but why not? The P1 can’t be done in such a format because it has a roof scoop and replacing that might require a pretty big investment in engineering and since nobody is complaining, why change anything, right?
But the Ferrari doesn’t have one of those and, at a first glance, such an alteration might be doable. Of course, there are plenty of other hidden issues to talk about but let us dream, will you?
