Fiat’s 500X Abarth version has been confirmed for some time, but this is the first time we have pictures of the car without any disguise.
Thanks to our friends at CarPix, we can show you the new Fiat 500X Abarth in all of its might.
The extended photo gallery even displays the car as the driver is doing a Scandinavian flick. Sadly, there’s no video of this, but we noticed a subtle opposite lock in the following photos. This is the first ever Abarth with five doors and the first ever SUV modified by the Italian specialist.
The prototype seen in the images is rolling on 18-inch Alfa Romeo rims with the badges removed, along with big brake discs. Naturally, the model features red brake calipers, dual exhausts, and a discreet body kit.
The interior of the 500X is set to receive minute changes, but the most significant modifications will take place on a mechanical level. The suspension and steering of the 500X will become sharper, while the engine will develop over 180 HP.
According to the photographer who shot the images in this gallery, the exhaust note of this car was aggressive and reminded him of the Alfa Romeo 4C. As we are sure the professional car spy has seen and heard a few cars, we can trust his instinct.
If the car uses the 1.75-liter TBi turbo unit, the Abarth 500X could deliver 235 HP and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque, but only if it is borrowed without any modification from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV.
The only crossover in the Fiat 500X Abarth’s segment that would come close would be the Nissan Juke Nismo RS, available with a 1.6-liter turbo unit good for 215 HP.
While the prototype in the image gallery shows no camouflage at all, Fiat could slightly change the front fascia for the Abarth version. First of all, the car will receive Abarth badges, new wheel designs, and possibly a different front bumper and front grill. We expect the Italian brand to launch the production version by the end of the year.
