If you regard the Jeep Renegade as too butch and square-ish for your liking, chances are the Fiat 500X will be better suited for your needs. Underpinned by the same Small US Wide 4×4 / GM Fiat Small platform as the little Jeep, the 500X crossover is arguably the most potent model from the 500 family.
To celebrate the arrival of the nameplate, the 500X spawned a limited-run Opening Edition model, which will comprise of only 2,000 units available in City Look (pictured) or Off-Road Look guise (the red one pictured below). But how exactly does the Opening Edition differ from the normal 2015 Fiat 500X crossover?

Well, Fiat is adamant that all 500 examples of the UK-spec Opening Edition will save you up to £2,850 worth of additional equipment at no extra cost. With deliveries slated for May 2015, the limited-run models start from £17,595 OTR for the Fiat 500X 4X2 Opening Edition, a similar price to the Pop Star, but with £1,725 worth of equipment thrown in for free.

All 325 units of the 4X2 are powered by the 1.4 MultiAir II petrol with 140 horsepower on tap. If you need all-wheel drive and 140 horsepower worth of turbo diesel power, then the 175-unit strong 500X Cross Plus Opening Edition will be more to your liking. Priced from a slightly hefty £25,845, this mountain goat boasts with tri-coat Amore Red for exterior paint, a ZF nine-speed automatic and all the best options available.

However, we do need to point out that the way too high sticker price of the Cross Plus Opening Edition will buy you a decently kitted 2015 Ford Mondeo or Kuga, which hold a UK price tag of £20,795 and £20,995, respectively. Vector in a diesel mill, sat nav, LED lights and a few other optional bits and bobs, and you'll see yourself owning a bigger and more practical car than the Cross Plus Opening Edition for similar money.
