Fiat Ducato 4x4 Expedition Will Take You Camping where No One Has Ever Camped Before

There's a reason this type of vehicles are one-offs and never enter mass production: nobody would buy them. But that's not because they're completely awesome, it's just that they would cost more than your average supercar.

Besides, whoever has the money to afford one, can always find a tuning house willing to turn a regular goods hauler into a luxurious house on wheels.

This Fiat Ducato 4x4 Expedition was presented by the Italian manufacturer at Düsseldorf Caravan Salon in Germany. Yes, those people who annoyed the hell out of the TopGear TV show presenters by driving too slow have their own salon.

By the looks of it, there's not much traffic to slow down where this Ducato 4x4 Expedition is going. Created by Fiat Professional, the prototype is based on a Ducato Camper Van with long wheelbase and features a set of exterior modifications. First of all, it's got raised ground clearance and all-terrain tires for better off-road abilities, even though its efforts might be hampered by the long wheelbase.

The Ducato has a large roof rack capable of holding a lot of equipment or fuel, some auxiliary LED lights for lighting up the paths, a winch for when the driver was too adventurous and a front skid plate for protection.

With its two-tone color combination and all these added features, the van gets a pretty rough, utilitarian look. When you'll go inside, though, you'll want to leave your muddy shoes outside because this is a place of toned-down luxury and comfort.

Despite its relatively limited width, the Ducato 4x4 Expedition is equipped with almost all the amenities we've come to expect to find in a house. It's got leather seats, a retractable makeshift bed, a cooking station complete with a sink, lots of storage cabinets and, of course, flat-screen TV sets.

Powering the Fiat Ducato 4x4 Expedition is a 2.3-liter MultiJet II engine developing 150 horsepower. As the name suggests, the Ducato 4x4 has a permanent all-wheel drive system that was developed by Dangel. Fiat whispered no words regarding any ways through which a customer could become the proud owner of such a car, but we suspect the 'where there's a will, there's a way' idiom applies here just as well.
