Fisker Karma Hybrid Could Be Resurrected as the 2016 Elux Karma

They are known to operate in the auto parts market but last year decided to buy Fisker Automotive’s assets in a bankruptcy auction. Now they want to drop the Fisker name and use Elux instead.

We could speculate for hours about what Elux stands for but there’s no point in that. What’s more important is that Chinese auto parts manufacturer Wanxiang plans to rebrand Fisker Automotive as Elux, one year after buying the company.

They also announced the delay in relaunching the dead and gone Fisker Karma until mid-2016, but if the name change gets the green light, the new model will become the Elux Karma.

Sounds like big plans, but we won’t take anything for granted as Wanxiang does not have a up-and-running production site at this moment and rumors suggest that the hybrid performance vehicle will not be assemble in Finland.

In addition, word on the street has it that the new car will have a starting price of $135,000, which is almost 20% higher in comparison to the original Karma’s price tag, before production was halted in 2012.

There are lots of questions to be asked about the Fisker Karma or Elux Karma’s future. And since the company sure does have the required pedigree (Fisker Automotive was co-founded by Henrik Fisker, responsible for designing the Aston Martin DB9 and the BMW Z8), it will be interesting to see how Wanxiang puts that to proper use. Otherwise, they could face some bad... karma.

Not to mention that Fisker Automotive was seen as an early rival of Tesla Motors right from its launch in 2007, which means that this affair could prove a pretty hard nut to crack from the very start for Wanxiang.
