First Aston Martin Lagonda Spotted on UK Roads

The Aston Martin Lagonda is one of the unicorns of the automotive industry right now. We have no idea why they built it in the first place, but Aston led everyone to believe that it was only for the Middle East market. So what is this black RHD model doing in London?

That is the million-pound question, and we are unlikely to find the answer soon. However, we do know that this is the first Lagonda delivered in Britain.

The car originally popped up in a couple of press photos taken at an airport in the Middle East. Very little was known about it until the “official” debut at the Geneva Motor Show. No more than 200 units will ever be built, based on the existing Rapide saloon model. Prices reportedly sit around £750,000, but there aren’t that many people who think it’s worth that much.

Aston Martin designers have been very busy this year. There was the lovely Vulcan race car that put on quite a spectacle at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the DBX concept, which seems to preview both an EV and a crossover.

Getting back to the Lagonda, the styling is what makes this a controversial car. It looks nothing like the other Astons, and some folks say it’s a glorified Ford Mondeo. The engines is a 6-liter V12 that everyone is familiar with. It delivers 540 PS, so it’s not quite as punchy as the Vanquish. However, the Lagonda is still one of the most powerful machines parading around London. Naught to 60 mph takes 4.6 seconds, and the top speed is 195 miles per hour.

It’s presumed that most customers will be using it as a chauffeured vehicle, as the amount of rear legroom has been increased compared to the Rapide. Two bucket seats covered in the finest leather are surrounded by everything a billionaire playboy could ever want in a car.
