People of London rejoice! Ford developed a pay-by-the-minute car-sharing service dubbed GoDrive. With 2,000 members invited to register for free for the project offers 50 vehicles across 20 locations, GoDrive is a neat pay-by-the-minute car hire service.
The strongest plus point of GoDrive is that it works by offering one-way trips with guaranteed parking at the destination. The pay-as-you-go approach with pay-per-minute pricing covers all fees, including insurance. Too bad diplomats, sports and entertainment professionals aren’t covered by the GoDrive outfit’s insurance policy.
London-based GoDrive started as pilot experiment with 100 registered members. Members have access to a fleet of zero-emission Ford Focus Electric cars or low-emission Ford Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost superminis.
With the GoDrive venture currently in its beta phase, Ford UK hopes to build on initial success and gain a few insights into user behavior through the recently announced 2,000 free registrations for new members. “As cities become more and more congested, people are becoming increasingly open to new means of mobility, and car sharing is proving to be an appealing model,” explained Ken Washington, the vice president of Ford’s Research and Advanced Engineering arm.
Becoming a test pilot also gets you a £20 free driving credit if you use the GDSPRING15 promotional code. The only drawback we observed with Ford GoDrive is that you need an iPhone 4 or above running iOS7 or above. Without the GoDrive app installed on an iOS-powered smartphone, you can’t reserve your vehicle.
