Ford EcoBoost Turbo Engine Family Landmark Moment - 5 Million EcoBoost-Engined Vehicles Built

Launched in 2009 on the Ford Taurus SHO and its 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 blunderbuss, the Blue Oval is now celebrating the fifth millionth EcoBoost-equipped car to roll off the assembly line. Not shabby at all.

In 2009, FoMoCo manufactured 14,439 units of the acclaimed turbocharged engine family. One year later in 2010, the first full year of EcoBoost production, 62,704 EcoBoost vehicles were built. Heck, it was less than three years ago that Ford celebrated EcoBoost number 500,000 and look at the company now - 5 million of them motors in roughly 6 years' time!

If you’re curious about what Ford model got the 5-millionth EcoBoost engine, that’s a 2015 Ford Focus 1.0 EcoBoost assembled at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan. From 2010, the manufacturing complex produces the Focus in Sedan, Hatchback, ST and Electric formats.

Production of the 5-millionth EcoBoost-equipped Ford car coincides with the first full year in which American customers can choose an EcoBoost engine on every model sold by the Blue Oval in the United States of America. At the moment, the EcoBoost family consists of the 1.5-liter, 1.6-liter, 2.0-liter and 2.3-liter four-cylinder engines, with the addition of the 2.7-liter and 3.5-liter V6 powerplants.

According to the Detroit-based manufacturer, an estimated 200,000 EcoBoost motors are built by the company per month throughout the world. In a time when the 2017 Ford GT adopts twin-turbo power over the supercharging technologies, it’s no wonder why FoMoCo will carry on developing the technology.

In any case, we're looking forward to the 2016 Ford Focus RS and its 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-banger with 350 PS (345 HP) on tap. With all-wheel drive and a Drift Mode available for you to play with, who can resist to hoon the bejesus out of the uber hatch?
