Ford is going forward with its mobility plan announced earlier this year and enters a new phase in making this initiative happen. This means research is over, and the time has come for things to be put into practice.
In case you're not familiar with Ford's mobility plan, here's a quick short update. The Blue Oval wants to deliver the next level in connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, customer experience, and big data.
"We now are moving from experimentation to implementation,” said Mark Fields, Ford president and CEO. “We have learned a lot in the past six months, and now are ready to put insights into action. Our goal is to make people’s lives better by helping them more easily navigate through their day, address societal issues and, over time, change the way the world moves."
Well, it sounds good in theory, but let's see what exactly that means. For starters, Ford will invite 14,000 and 12,000 customers in six U.S. cities and London, respectively, to a pilot peer-to-peer car-sharing movement.
Among the benefits offered by the scheme, we mention 50 cars positioned in 20 locations, one-way trips with guaranteed parking and Availability of zero-emission Focus Electric vehicles.
Other than that, Ford launched the MoDe:Flex electric bicycle, the company's third eBike. The bike’s center frame assembly includes the motor and battery while the front and rear parts and wheels can be configured for road, mountain or city riding. It also folds and stores inside any Ford vehicle – where it can be charged while stowed.
We attached a video below, to give a better picture of how the eBike works.
