Ford is looking to adapt to the current trends in the United States green car market by cutting $900 off the cost of both the Energi plug-in and the standard Fusion Hybrid, in an attempt to refresh buyer's interest in these two particular models.
The overall green car market in the United States saw a decrease in sales in 2014 because of a 6.5-percent drop in hybrid demand compared to 2013, despite on increase in the electric vehicle and plug-in market by a impressive 28%.

Moreover, Ford officials explained that this price cut aims to "basically, attract more customers and promote sale" but we will also mention that the reduction also affects every trim of both versions of the 2016 model year Fusion, according to Cars Direct.

More than that, the Energi is expected to offer a new EcoSelect driving mode than can activate additional regenerative braking as well as more gentle acceleration as Ford look keen on attracting buyers' attention towards its eco-friendly models. In this respect, the price drop wil be dedicated exclusively to these two Fusion versions, without influencing the ones based solely on an internal combustion engine.

After the adjustment, the Fusion Hybrid S will be available from a starting price of $25,675 plus $825 destination fee, while the Energi will have a starting price tag of $33,900. Both models are expected to go on sale later this year.

Among its competitors, the Chevrolet Volt remains the biggest threat so Ford's sales but the revised price tag should give the green Fusion an edge, at least until Chevrolet will decide to announce official pricing for its Volt EV. And of course, there's the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry Hybrids to consider.
