Oh dear, the bad news doesn’t stop in terms of recalls. After GM took the heat last year, it is now FoMoCo’s turn to serve us with pretty big recall ops. The latest campaigns cover a little over 221,000 vehicles, but fret not, the defects aren’t as bad as you might imagine.
Of the 221,108 recalled Ford vehicles, 212,911 units are 2011 to 2013 Ford Explorer and Ford Police Interceptor Utility models. The reason? An issue with the spring that controls the interior door handles.
If the spring is unseated, Ford is telling that the door may become unlatched in a side-impact crash, increasing the risk of injury.
The second recall comprises of 1,725 not-so-ordinary vehicles - 2013 to 2015 model year Lincoln MKT limousines and hearses. There seems to be a gremlin with the vacuum pump relay, a fault that could result in an underhood fire. The Ford Motor Company is aware of only two underhood fires, but fortunately, no injuries or accidents have been related to this condition.
As for the third recall op, certain 2011 to 2013 model year F-Series Super Duty ambulance vehicles and 2014 to 2015MY ambulance and emergency vehicles equipped with the 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbo diesel are called back for a defect with the exhaust gas temperature sensor.
6,472 workhorses are affected and, as of now, the Blue Oval is not aware of any accidents or injuries attributed to this glitch. Naturally, Ford announced that all affected owners will have to visit service departments in order to fix those distinctive faults at no cost to the affected party.
