Ford Vision 2020: Aluminum Super Duty, Two New Lincoln Vehicles Confirmed

After the Blue Oval took the full-size pickup truck segment by storm with the all-new 2015 F-150's extensive use of light yet strong aluminum, the American automaker confirmed the new Super Duty F-Series truck will also be made from the material. Furthermore, Ford's Vision 2020 strategy is also hinting at two new mysterious Lincoln models.

Like any other major automaker's strategy plan, the Ford Vision 2020 is full of boring promises about how the company's North American sales will grow from 2.9 million vehicles in 2013 to 3.5 million in 2020 and oh my God this editor is already feeling drowsy from the boringness of it all. But the Vision 2020 strategy also packs a few exciting details.

To highlight what caught our attention the most, we'll point out that the Blue Oval confirmed the next-gen Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup truck will lose some weight thanks to a mainly aluminum construction. As such, it's only natural to expect the future Super Duty pickup truck to lose a lot of lard, all while improving gas mileage figures, as well as towing and hauling capabilities.

Two new Lincoln models will be launched in the near future

Then there's the still problematic Lincoln brand. Even though the recently updated Navigator full-size SUV and newly introduced MKC luxury crossover helped Lincoln to improve its sales volume, the carmaker still has a long way to go before coming back to form. In this regard, Ford' Vision 2020 details that Lincoln will launch the concept-based MKX crossover sometime next year, then a replacement MKS.

Ford officials also plan to develop two new Lincolns by 2020, without actually detailing the new entries. Our two cents will go on a replacement Navigator SUV, one that will be very different from the current model in terms of styling language, chassis and powertrain technologies.

The other new entry in the Lincoln lineup is expected to come in the form of the rumored two-door coupe based on the 2015 Ford Mustang platform or in the form of a new compact sedan. Nevertheless, the Blue Oval offered Lincoln $2.5 billion to develop the previously mentioned new models.
