If you aren't a hardcore General Motors fanboy then you might remember that the automaker is hit by its biggest crisis yet: 30+ million vehicles recalled and people that were seriously or fatally injured in crashes related to defective GM-made automobiles.
However, these snobby bastards headed by Mary Barra have sided with a certain Michigan Governor Rick Snyder. Rick is a bit of a prick to be completely frank. A spineless one to boot. Under pressure from GM and other big boys with new car selling operations in the state, he signed a bill that "clarifies and strengthens an existing law about direct auto sales."
Nice choice of words there from Mr. Governor big shot, but House Bill 5606 is in fact a way for older, established automakers and dealers to say "F U, Elon Musk and F your brilliant way of selling the Model S!" Furthermore, big boys in the auto industry are so afraid of Tesla Motors' successful way of doing business and innovating that they've lobbied Rick to effectively ban Tesla Motors from selling its cars directly to consumers in the market for an electric car.
As opposed to your average new car dealership, Tesla goes around retail franchises and sells directly through its privately owned retail locations in the state. That keeps prices of Tesla vehicles as low as possible, which is a win for the consumer. Last but not least, it's a shame how the National Automobile Dealers Association itself is turning its back on Tesla and sides with the old farts in the industry.
Other states tried to stop Elon Musk and Tesla from direct-to-consumer selling. Time and time again, Tesla's legal department and a handful of fairer state Governors made ends meet and fought back against this push-backs. Last but not least, even the Federal Trade Commission has called this automakers and dealers vs. Tesla war anticompetitive for the latter, which is saying something about how some states strand off from the capitalist way of the U S of A, adopting a left-wing, partisan way of doing business.
