The new 2017 Genesis G90 that was launched today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit was designed to be a real contender in the premium luxury car segment thanks to its world-class safety and technology innovations.
Penned by the Prestige Design Group, the G90 embodies the new sub-brand's “Athletic Elegance” design identity that will also feature in the next Genesis products. The front end is characterized by the “CREST” grille, a prominent hood with short overhangs, full-LED headlights and LED Daytime Running Lights.
In the rear, dual asymmetrical exhaust tips are surrounded by lower fascia accents, and vertical full LED lights offer a unique rear illumination signature.
Inside the G90, fine materials meet refined ergonomics and surround the passengers with luxurious comforts. Throughout the cabin, the instrumental panel and the controls are covered with Nappa-leather and genuine wood accents. A fine detail are the Lexicon audio speaker grilles that are precision-machined from high-grade aluminum alloy.
The interior is very spacious mostly because of a generous 4.5-inch increase in wheelbase and has a lot of front headroom and legroom compared to its closest competitors.
Customers will be able to choose from two optional power units, both on gasoline. The first is a Twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter direct injected V6 engine, producing 365 horsepower. The second engine is a much powerful 5.0-liter direct-injected V8, developing 420 horsepower.
Both engines feature electric thermostats, mid-position-lock Continuously Variable Valve Timing for better responsiveness and fuel efficiency, and are linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission with reduced clutch-disc drag, lighter torque-converter and reduced losses from lower oil pump displacement compared to the previous generation.
The G90 is full of technological and safety innovations, including the GENESIS SMART SENSE that brings together systems such as Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Smart Cruise Control with Stop/Start, Smart Blind Sports Detection, and Lane Keep Assist.
