The German Panther tank was intended as a counter to the Soviet T-34 and as a replacement for the Panzer III and Panzer IV. It was considered one of the best tanks of World War II due its excellent firepower and protection. It’s a Nazi war machine alright, but it also seems to be collecting worthy considering this old tank lover kept one for decades in his garage.
Some people collect fire trucks, others Porsches and some rich fellows even afford buying pre-war luxury cars. However, it’s not always money that stands between you and your dream; sometimes it’s rather about the legal issues of owning military gear. It’s the case with this 78-year-old collector from Kiel, Germany whose name would not be released for privacy reasons.

Kiel prosecutor Birgit Hess told the Associated Press that the 45-ton Panther tank, flak cannon and multiple other World War II-era military weapons were under the suspicion of being illegally owned.
The owner of these rarities is being investigated for possibly violating German weapons laws but remains free while the case is ongoing.

The defendant’s attorney claims his client has papers that prove there’s nothing wrong with his collection. If an old man owning heavy World War II military gear at his home sounds incredible, then wait to see where the grounds of this investigation stand.

According to the source, the collector came to authorities’ attention in an investigation concerning the black market Nazi-era art that in May turned up two massive bronze horse statues that once stood in front of Adolf Hitler’s chancellery. These belong to a different person who, like the tank owner in question, claims he is the rightful proprietor.

So, what was the strangest collectable you own again?
