Gintani Stage 1 Tune Gives Your BMW F80 M3 60 Extra HP

Gintani has been quite silent about possible upgrades for the new F80 M3 or F82 M4 which is rather surprising considering that they are highly respected in the BMW community. However, the wait seems to be over.

The tuner just posted a video on its Youtube account that seems to suggest that they now have a piggyback tune for the S55 engine fitted on the F80 M3 model. After checking with their website, we didn’t find any info to let us know if this will be offered as an official product or if it’s still in development but the signs are encouraging.

What the graph from two dyno runs shows is rather interesting as well. In the stock guise, the M3 they used put down 382 HP and 375 Lb-ft (508 Nm) of torque on 91 octane gas. Those numbers we expect are recorded at the wheels which would be right on if you take into account even a 10 percent transmission loss.

With that loss in mind, it would mean that the 3-liter biturbo engine is actually making 420 BHP at the crank and 558 Nm (412 lb-ft) which is nearly spot on with what BMW claims.

The other run showed 442 BHP and 449 lb-ft (609 Nm) of torque at the wheels, a 60 HP increase compared to the stock run. That would also translate into a 486 BHP and 494 lb-ft (670 Nm) of torque being made at the crank.

Unfortunately, we can’t tell you how much this upgrade will cost or what it implies. The Gintani website also shows that they have some catless downpipes available so they might’ve played a part as well. Don’t worry, we’ll get some official numbers soon enough.
