Golden Bentley Flying Spur Burned to the Ground in China

We all know that China’s upper class is getting bigger by the month and more and more newly-enriched car enthusiasts appear. The Asian country is one of the most craved auto markets for luxury carmakers around the planet. Yet this doesn’t mean seeing a $400,000 limousine burning to the ground isn’t as shocking as it is anywhere on the planet. And by the looks of it, the Bentley Flying Spur in question seems to have reached the point of no return.

The fiery arson happened a couple of days ago in the city of Yiwu in Zhejiang Province and the pictures were uploaded on China’s Facebook-equivalent, Weibo social network. The footage clearly shows how the fire started from the inside of the car and slowly spread around the passenger seat eventually covering the entire grand tourer. The four-door variant of the Bentley Continental GT coupe did not endanger the driver’s safety in anyway, who luckily got out of the car just in time.

According to local media reports, the accident was a case of “spontaneous combustion”, meaning there was no crash or other external reason to target the fire. Flames apparently started in the engine bay close to the fire wall and then spread quickly to the back. As the pictures clearly show, the engine bay is burned completely, while the rest of the car’s body doesn’t look a lot better.

Now, considering the amount of money one needs to pay to get a Flying Spur in China - sometimes it could cost double than what you’d pay for it in US - we can only hope the poor fellow had insurance. We can't be 100 per cent sure, but by the looks of it the car is going to the scrapyard.
