Husqvarna 701 Supermoto Spied, Still Looks Largely Like a KTM

We brought you live photos of the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto last autumn from EICMA 2014 and now it’s time to offer you the first spy shots of the bike on the road. If you were expecting to see a bike with looks significantly different from those of a similar KTM, you’ll be disappointed, as the machine is pretty much in the same state it was in early November in Milan.

Funnily enough, visordown is not at all shy to add that if the Husky was painted orange, it would have most likely passed unnoticed. Still, the urban/cyber camo livery caught the attention of a guy in Tenerife who was quick to take some photos of the two-wheeler.

KTM is as KTM does

The fact that Husqvarna is and will be sharing parts of certain KTM platforms is old news. Still, what is truly nice is that we have seen Mattighofen investing in developing a real brand identity for Husky instead of absorbing it completely as even we feared in the past.

Husqvarna is consolidating its position in the off-road segments and road going motorcycles infused with KTM (in decent doses) will definitely appeal to a wide range of customers. In fact, Husky is in a way re-introducing supermoto beasts, and this time it looks like these bikes are here to stay.

Largely resembling to KTM’s 690 SMC R, this supermoto Husky brings a new seat and body panels for a different vibe, as well as a new tail light, plus a host of other minute details which will be revealed when the production model surfaces.

The bike looks very close to being ready for production if you ask us. We know that engine is the 690cc 4-stroke thumper and we can guesstimate that the final tech specs will be very close to those of the KTM690. The EICMA spec sheet told the same WP suspension, Keihin injection and Brembo brakes story. An off-road version of the bike was also spotted, so we can assume the 701 will arrive in two a two-sport flavor, with prices most likely a tad above those of the KTM bikes. Hopefully launched before EICMA.
