This just in from Hyundai Motor America - almost 43,000 units of older full-size cars are called back over an electronic glitch that affects the exterior lighting. The 2009 to 2011 Hyundai Genesis and 2011 Hyundai Equus are covered by this new campaign.
The South Korean auto giant points out that affected Genesis sedans were built from April 30th, 2008 to November 21st, 2010. As for the potentially defective Equus population, Hyundai says the lot was made from July 31st, 2010 to November 21st that year.
After Hyundai North America received some complaints alleging inoperative stop lamps, the company investigated the issue and found out that the stop lamp circuitry contains a faulty diode in series between the lamp switch and the stop lamps.
As I’m sure you might’ve guess by now, failure of the diode results in inoperative stop lamps, which may translate to a rear-ending situation. Hyundai USA instructed its dealers to replace the stop lamp circuit diode to fix the glitch, with recall notification letters for affected owners being readied as we speak.
Even though the manufacturer hasn’t provided a notification schedule yet, we expect Hyundai to start fixing those cars in January. Affected owners are advised to contact Hyundai USA at 1-714-865-3920.
