South Korean tire maker Hankook manages once again to captivate us with yet another set of intelligent morphing wheels that can adapt to multiple conditions.
The new concepts are part of the “A Great Challenge for a Great Change” project made in collaboration with the University of Design, Engineering and Business in Pforzheim, Germany and are mind-boggling, to say the least.

The resulting wheel concepts got presented in a neat 3D animation picturing a race between some future cars in which those fitted with the special Hankook wheels manage to overcome every situation and win the event.

First entry in the lineup is the Boostrac, a wheel that can offer best performances both on asphalt and off-road terrain. That is achieved thanks to the tire’s multi-faceted construction, which can constrict for a flat rolling surface or expand and create a rugged off-road tire with big studs.

Next comes the Alpike, which again is a wheel made for both on- and off-road conditions, but this one also changes its diameter to offer more ground clearance. Last but not least, there’s the HyBlade, which is fitted with multiple blades extending when the car is in water to help it propel more efficient.

We’re not sure if Hankooks crazy ideas will become true in the near future, but this video can certainly inspire some interesting racing games.
