Just as if the Honda Takata-related recall in the United States wasn’t enough of a handful, the Asian carmaker is now the subject of a call back campaign in China. It seems like approximately 553,264 automobiles make up the latest operation of the Takata Corporation faulty airbag inflator saga.
The tally of vehicles previously mentioned is comprised of approximately 527,136 Accord cars manufactured locally by Guangqi Honda from May 2002 to December 2007. All these older vehicles need to swap their Takata Corpoation driver-side airbags for redesigned, safer airbag inflators.
In addition to these, the Elsyion minivan made between June 2012 to June 2014 is also subjected to a visit at the service department. More specifically, 26,128 units of the thing according to the Chinese Government’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. But there’s a big catch to this investigative recall op from China.
Speaking to Bloomberg, a spokesman for Honda in China declared the recall will take place from February 28, 2015 because the replacement parts aren’t available right now. We understand finding a different airbag supplier on such short notice is not a comfortable situation, but this spokesperson also told Bloomberg that motorists can drive the cars as usual and don’t have to disable the airbags.
The global tally of Honda cars that are called back because of Takata airbags hiked to over 13 million.

We remind you that defective Takata airbags may rupture during deployment along with other bits and bobs of the ensemble, thus sending metal shards and other deadly stuff in the face of the driver or passengers.
