No less than 33 models in Honda's roster are expected in dealerships to have their starter relay switch lot number checked, as part of a huge voluntary recall campaign initiated by the manufacturer.
According to Honda, during the assembly of the starter relay switch, sealant may have been improperly applied. Honda says that in certain cases, this could lead to increased resistance in the bikes' main fuse, causing an interruption of current flow between the battery and the electrical system.

If the current flow stops, the affected motorcycles will no longer start or, in case this happens during operation, the bike engine may stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Honda doesn't exclude the possibility that the starter relay switch catches on fire because of the abnormal working conditions in the main fuse. There was no mention of incident, crashes or injuries at the time of writing.

Shadow, CTX, Fury, CRF, CB, CBR, and NC machines are affected

The complete list of the Honda motorcycles potentially affected by this problem can be consulted after the jump, and it includes multiple middleweight models, both all-rounders and sport bikes, plus several cruisers.

The affected motorcycles belong to 2014, 2015, and 2016 model years. So far, the only 2016 model year machine that falls under the recall si the NM4 Vultus, and we can expect that it remains the only one. That is, after learning that there is something wrong with a certain part, Honda has certainly quarantined the defective lots and manufactured bikes with the right parts.

Customers are advised to contact their dealers and mention the Honda recall campaign JS9. The NHTSA is preparing the necessary documents, but the dealers have been informed. They will inspect the starter relay switch lot number and replace the parts if needed.
