Honda will publicly unveil a prototype of the 2017 Civic at the Geneva Motor Show. Until then, the Japanese brand has released the first teaser image of the concept car.
Honda has decided to make the new Civic at its UK Manufacturing plant and export it to global markets, including the US. The decision means that the upcoming 2017 Honda Civic will be a global model.

The succeeding Civic will be an entirely new car, scheduled to appear in hatchback form in the first part of 2017. Until then, Honda will reveal a concept car presented as a prototype. Judging by the teaser image, the exhibit will definitely be a funky concept car, and not a close-to-production vehicle.

The new Civic concept comes shortly after Honda launched the tenth generation of the compact on the North American market. The US Honda Civic is internally named FC1 or FC2 and was released in September 2015. At the time, the vehicle was exhibited as featuring an all-new compact global platform. The latest exhibit planned by Honda could use the same compact global platform employed by the American version of the Civic, and the resulting car could be sold worldwide.

Such a decision would not be a first in the automotive industry for a successful model that has been sold worldwide in two different versions. The Ford Focus is a solid example of this strategy, as the American brand decided to make the third-generation a global model and never looked back.

Honda might apply a similar approach. While the design of the car will be harder to achieve in a way to please different markets and their respective consumers, the company can save millions of dollars in various costs if the plan works out and the new Civic is a sales success.

Along with the new Civic Hatchback prototype, Honda will showcase the Clarity Fuel Cell at its European debut, along with the NSX production model. The exhibits will be joined by the Jazz “Keenlight” Concept car and the new CRF1000L Africa Twin motorcycle.
