Hong Kong Police Seizes Luxury Car Collection after Arresting Street Racers

Reports are the group is one of the most wanted ones in China and that they have been high-speed racing for two days until the moment they were caught. Twelve cars were seized by the police, most of which are hundred-thousand-dollar cars. Local reports claim all the suspects were Hong Kong citizens aged between 38 and 62 and form the largest street racing case ever seen by police.

All the suspects will be charged with dangerous driving, but it’s still not clear what’s going to happen with the vehicles. “We are investigating a case of high speed racing along the riverside expressway,” the Shenzen public security bureau said on its verified microblog.

China and sportscars

Street racing is quite the habit in Asian countries such as China or Japan, where the world of sport cars reinvents itself constantly, with luxury car owners literally changing the streets into a race track during the night. It’s no surprise China is having all sorts of racing gangs, considering their big boom in the auto industry.

Chinese drivers bought about 28 million cars last year only, and luxury brands are experiencing the biggest growth, of about 20% year on year. After all, China has the world’s largest market for automobiles, having surpassed the United States in both auto sales and production. Auto sales in 2009 exceeded 13.6 million and will reach 40 million by 2020.
