Great Britain is in grave danger - the Guinness World Record for the Tightest Parallel Park, which used to be held by a Brit with a MINI, has now fallen, with the title being taken by the Chinese.
Drifter Han Yue has broken the already unbelievably tight record by sliding his way into a gap measuring just 3.15 inches (8 cm) more than the vehicle he used for the stunt, the new MINI 3-Door.
The feat took place last Friday during the “China Drift Championship”, which was held at the Chongqing Olympic Park. The man pulled the usual stunt, handbraking the MINI into the parking spot, but it was his incredible accuracy that did the trick.
The Chinese drifter beat the previous record by 0.24 inches (0.6 cm) - that record was held by British driver Alastair Moffatt, who has set it in July last year. Then again, this is the second time when Han Yue takes this record - the man pulled a similar stunt back in 2012, when he managed to impress the crowds with a gap of 5.91 inches (15 cm).
Han Yue was not pleased with setting just one World Record
The parking job was actually the second World Record Han set during the event. One day before, Han had joined forces with Zhang Shengjun, fellow drifter and friend to set a new record the most donuts around a car driving on two wheels in one minute. Zhang drifted a BMW M4 around Han, who was driving a MINI on two wheels. By the way, Guinness classifies donuts as “drift spins”.
When asked about his motivation, Han said the idea of bringing the record back to China was very important. Drift may have been invented in Japan, but it looks like the Chinese want a big piece of this sideways pie.
