Marc Marquez received a green light to race at Jerez this weekend from Dr. Mir. Yesterday we told you the somewhat funny story of how Marc Marquez attempted to put his left little finger back into place after a crash during a dirt bike training session. The strange noises caused him to think twice, and a medical investigation revealed a fracture that required surgery.
Acting fast, and with the help of the small titanium plate keeping his proximal phalanx together, Marquez was able to make just enough progress in his recovery so that Dr. Mir agreed to take off the cast and gently start with rehabilitation for each of the finger joints.

Marquez will obviously not be 100% fit for the race at Jerez, and both Mir and Team Repsol Honda know this. A new check will be performed on Thursday, as Marquez will have to get clearance to race from the MotoGP doctors at Jerez.

Even more, the status of his finger will be assessed after each of the practice sessions, to make sure things are not becoming worse. Dr. Mir says that a fracture usually needs up to 5 weeks to heal, so with only one week into the recovery process, Marquez must be careful and avoid crashes.

"My finger will be checked at Jerez after every session and the bandages will be changed. I am very motivated for this Grand Prix, because it is the first of the year in Spain, there are my home fans there and I have some good memories from previous years! It's a pity about the injury, but I hope that it doesn't affect me too much and that I can get a great result in front of the fans," Marquez adds.

Dani Pedrosa still sidelined, replaced by Aoyama at Jerez this weekend

While Marc Marquez is confident he will stand a chance to claw some points even in his condition, for his teammate Dani Pedrosa, Jerez will be the third race he's forced to miss.

Three weeks after the surgery that treated his long-standing arm pump problem and which remove the layer of fascia holding his forearm muscles together, Pedrosa is making progress. However, it looks like he's not healed enough to withstand the high tension of a MotoGP race, yet.

As we reported, Pedrosa was to take part in a supermoto race. It turned out that his hand was not well enough to cope with the demands of an entire weekend of racing. The doctors advised more rest and rehabilitation, lest further damage occurs to the muscles. HRC test rider Hiroshi Aoyama will be substituting for Pedrosa again.

We're also supporting Dani Pedrosa in his choice and hope for a full recovery by the GP of France at Le Mans, May 15-17.
