The Jaguar XF is the most gray-haired model in its segment. Audi, BMW and Merc all renewed their E-segment models, leaving the XF (X250) far behind. It’s no longer a secret the leaping cat brand is now finalizing development of the second generation XF, which will land the 2015 New York Auto Show.
Before the XF receives its iQ[Al] platform, Ingenium turbocharged 2-liter putters and its new, extremely minimalistic dashboard design, the current model is feeling the end coming, which is why it spawned an all-new grade baptized Jaguar XF R-Sport Black. It does sound... sporty, but don’t be fooled by the name's ring.
Priced in the United Kingdom at £38,350 or $57,962 at current exchange rates, the 2.2-liter 200 PS four-door saloon XF R-Sport Black is considerably more expensive than the base 2.2 163 PS XF Luxury spec (£33,445), but you do get more oomph and helluva lot more standard equipment for the extra paid. To boot, the R-Sport Black costs £2,100 more than the grade it’s based on - the 2.2-liter 200 PS XF R-Sport.
Nevertheless, that tiny dribble of pounds sterling is necessary if you desire an additional £8,770 worth of value over the R-Sport. Featuring a hefty list of specification enhancements, including 20-inch rims and a 770-watt Meridian Surround Sound system, the turbo diesel-powered XF R-Sport Black gains a number of other goodies such as full bond-grain leather everything and trick 18-way memory Sports seats.
R-Sport Black models come with a choice of five no-cost paint options: Kyanite Blue, Italian Racing Red, Glacier White, Ultimate Black and Stratus Grey - with the Kyanite Blue option limited to a mere 100 units. Furthermore, the entry-level Luxury trim level has also been revisited by Jaguar, now adding as standard features like Gloss Dark Oak veneer, the Winter Comfort Pack and the Parking Pack.
Mind you, the base price also hiked by £600 on 200 PS models and £500 on 163 PS variants...
