I don’t know about you, but I am getting sick of how much marketing money the people from Jaguar are investing in the launch of their first ever SUV. The F-Pace has been everywhere even though it hasn’t been unveiled yet.
They showed us the car at the Arctic, in the desert and everywhere else you can think of and it is getting a bit tiring right now. I know that they need to invest heavily to make it a widely known product before it hits dealerships, but enough is enough.
The most recent info on the SUV comes from the car maker itself and apparently it looks like it will be making its world debut in Frankfurt in September, just a little over two weeks from now.
Along with this startling reveal, the Brits are also claiming a couple of more interesting things these days. According to them, the F-Pace will “bring new levels of dynamic ability to the brand when it goes on sale in 2016, after debuting at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.”
That’s a big claim considering that there is some serious competition right where the purring kitty wants to sit. We’re referring to BMW and, of course, even better, Porsche. They both have offerings in the same segment and they will be hard to beat at their own game.
If the XE S has received plenty of favorable reviews, claiming that the old 3 Series can’t keep up with it in terms of handling, dealing with Porsche will be yet another difficult challenge to overcome.
The car will be based on the new Lightweight Aluminum Architecture from Jaguar, the same used for the XE and under the skin we’ll find a sophisticated double wishbone front suspension with Integral Link in the back. Will that be enough? Probably not.
But there are a couple more interesting things to learn about. For example, just like on the F-Type, the F-Pace will have an electric power-assisted steering system for better feedback. However, in terms of torque vectoring, we’ll get a braking-based system that is known not to be the best choice out there as it has a tendency to understeer.
Therefore, there’s a mix of good and bad coming with the F-Pace and while this one editor definitely hopes it will live up to its expectations, we’ll just have to wait and see what comes of it.
