Who says that you can't live the American dream if you happen to be in China? Sure, the People's Republic used to be a conservative place, but with the recent economic boom going on over there, the government is turning a blind eye to personal wealth.
We've seen all sorts of supercars in Shanghai or Beijing. In fact, both Lamborghini and Ferrari have designed special edition models for the Chinese, with dragons, gold and opulent features. But a Jeep is an altogether different story.
The Jeep Wrangler is basically the most unaltered symbol of American freedom on four wheels. It's like a Harley Davidson or a weekend of hunting with your beer buddies. There are no electric versions, no girly paint jobs, and no boy racer kits. So to see it in China with the gold star of the communist party on the hubcaps… that's kind of weird.
The original Jeep had a long career with the US Army fighting communism. After WW2 had ended, there was Korea, Vietnam and the famous standoff against the Soviets in front of the Berlin wall. That being said, I don't think it's ever been directly used against the Chinese army though I could be wrong (a few Chinese troops were in Korea, right?).
Still, I bet there's going to be some Jeep club in America that's royally ticked off against the Chinese for putting their stars on the American SUV.
You guys might be wondering what's going on with these weird photos. Well, this is a shooting for Hunter Vision, which is a local magazine. The model is named Aime Zhag Xi, and she's from Beijing. Considering that the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show isn't going to have any girls, we just thought it would be nice to get an eyeful ahead of time.
