Kawasaki has trademarked the Ninja R2 name in Europe and this has set imagination free, with a lot of people being convinced that the house of Akashi is preparing a new generation of Ninja motorcycles with supercharged engines.
Truth is, such a move would not surprise us too much, especially because we can already see a potential trend in designing motorcycles which are able to squeeze more horsepower from their engines without upgrading the displacement, and therefore curbing a bit the fuel consumption.

Turbo and supercharged motorcycle engines seem to become once more popular, especially as Suzuki is also eyeing delivering a production version for their Recursion and we have reasons to believe that more manufacturers are at least considering adding forced induction engines to their line-up.

Knowledge from the Ninja H2 and H2R could be passed to other bikes

While new supercharged Ninja machinery remains so far only a rumor, we know that Kawasaki could indeed use the knowledge and technology developed for the H2 and H2R bikes. Even more, as the new H-series machines are being delivered and riders start using them, even more info will be flowing in to Akashi, allowing them to weigh better the opportunity to dish more supercharged bikes.

Online media, such as visordown, doesn’t dismiss the possibility that the Ninja R2 is simply the new name of Kawasaki’s new generation of ZX-R machines, especially as the ZX-10R could definitely use a major upgrade. Like always. We’ll be looking for more info in this matter and will bring you news as it surfaces.

As for a supercharged liter-class Ninja producing around 200 hp and being more affordable than the Ninja H2… we believe a lot of people would really love to see and own one.
