Ever wondered about the difference between a supercar and a hypercar the world’s first series-built Megacar? Of course you have, you petrol-infused thinkers! Well, here’s a damn good answer for you, coming in the form of one of the most extreme drag races we’ve seen all year.

We’re talking about a battle that sees an Audi R8 GT Spyder daring to take on a Koenigsegg One:1. For those of you who need a refresh, we’ll mention the German machine packs 553 hp (560 PS) and tips the scales at 3,970 lbs (1,800 kg), while the specs of the Swedish hypercar simply come from another dimension.

As the designation of the One:1 explains, this packs 1 hp per each kilogram, so we are dealing with an output of 1,341 hp (1,360 PS) and a weight of 2,998 lbs (1,360 kg).

Then there’s the mind-blowing torque difference between the two. The Koenigsegg, which relies on a forced-fed 5-liter V8 allow its driver to control 1,011 lb-ft (1,371 Nm), while naturally aspirated nature of the R8 means its 5.2-liter V10 delivers just 398 lb-ft (540 Nm) of twist.

The Launch Control features was not used in the monster race

In order to give the Audi a bit of an advantage, the two agreed on not using the Launch Control function on their cars. With the R8’s all-wheel drive, this managed to grab the start.

However, once the rear tires of the Koenigsegg managed to find traction, the Swedish machine took off as if the R8 would’ve been parked on the side of the runway.

The two battled it on at the VMax200 event in the UK, which was held on the Bruntingthorpe Aerodrome. This meant the cars had about two miles to race, with the R8 being clocked at 190 mph (306 km/h) and the One:1 hitting 220 mph without trying too hard.

The Koenigsegg was set back by a wheel alignment issue, so it was far from reaching its full potential.
