Land Rover Discovery Receives an Award More People Should Care about

The Land Rover Discovery is a bit of a dinosaur - a great car, that's true, but one that desperately needs a replacement. And to make matters worse, it's just been awarded a prize few people know exists, and even fewer care about.

I'm pretty sure no Land Rover Discovery owner bought the car mainly for its towing capabilities. That aspect might have played a teeny-weeny role in his decision, but it was by no means a decisive factor. He got a Discovery because it's a great car that also happens to be quite capable with something trailing behind it.

And yet, Land Rover Discovery has just lifted the coveted (ahem!) award of overall Towcar of the Year as well as the AWD 1,800 kg+ and £50,000+ ($76,336) categories. Three prizes in one day. Who hands out awards such as these, you ask? Well, it happened at this little competition called "The Caravan Club’s Towcar of the Year 2015 Awards." Think The Oscars, but with something hanging from the back.

The judges even came with an explanation for their choice: “[it has] rock solid stability, master-class hill start, and its electric parking brake, which holds really well and releases automatically when pulling away”. Is it just me who feels this Caravan Club lives five to ten years in the past?

39 cars were tested by the jury comprising of caravan journalists (yes, you read that well), club members and "regular" automotive journalists before reaching the conclusion that if you want to slow traffic down, the best way to do it is with a Land Rover Discovery.

I know hating on caravan dwellers is getting old, but it's hard not to when you're stuck behind a huge white house on wheels that moves slowly and blocks your view. So, I guess, it's in everybody's interest that more and more people get to hear this about the Discovery. That would mean more people will use capable cars to tow their trailers, so less hassle for the rest of us.
