Land Rover Freelander Driver Won't Let a Bus Pass, Makes a Fool of Himself

British bus driver argument 1 photo

If you're the type that spends more than an hour every day caught up in traffic, it's a very good idea to have a dashcam installed on your vehicle. The reason is very simple: there are plenty of idiots out there, and the more time you spend at the wheel, the greater the chances of having a run-in with one of them get.
Take this bus driver from an unspecified British town, for example. He's going uphill on a narrow road at a modest speed, as there are houses no more than 60 feet away from the street. Since this is England, the road is flanked by man-high hedges, so visibility is rather poor as long as the road isn't straight. Still, he manages to spot the Land Rover Freelander coming downhill (it's important), so he makes a stop to allow it to pull over into a side street.

Wrong. The bus driver had two such possibilities when the SUV first appeared in his visual range, and it seems he didn't choose the one that would have satisfied the elderly man in the Freelander. So he stops hesitantly, jerks forward a little and, seeing the bus has the audacity to stand its ground, gets out of the car in a very unconvincing manner (he stumbles a little and hits the door, probably due to his anger).

He comes to confront the bus driver, informing him that he "could have allowed him to go into there," referring to the first side street on the left of the bus. The bus driver remains perfectly calm and apologizes for the technical limitations of his bus, saying that "it takes a while for these to slow down." Reminding the blue sweater bald man that driving a bus full of people is slightly different, he says "I'm not gonna slam my brakes on, OK?"

As proven so many times before, trying to reason with an infuriated self-entitled prick is futile. The Freelander owner thinks he knows better how things stood and accuses the bus driver of "talking rubbish." To which the man replies with a very articulate quote from the Highway Code, stating that "vehicles going up a single track road have right of way," which is one hundred percent correct. He even emphasizes that "it's a BUS."

The man finally seems to accept there's nothing he can do (I don't imagine he acknowledged the fact he was wrong), so he walks back to his car. The bus driver makes his first mistake and instead of letting it go, he yells one last advice: "pay more attention to the road!" After a short hesitation, the blue sweater returns for revenge, asking the bus driver for his tag number and threatening to file a complaint.

This is when the Land Rover driver reveals the fact that he either has a speed gun stuck somewhere in his body, or he possesses the uncanny ability to read vehicles' speed because he informs the bus driver he was doing "four miles an hour, mate, four miles an hour." Just in case you are inclined to believe him, bear in mind that four mph is brisk walking speed, and the bus was clearly doing more than that.

Like all British arguments, it all ends well, the road is cleared, and the bus can go back to its business. Check the video below, and if you want to skip straight to the action you can jump to the 00:30 mark, but a bit of context might be useful.
