When it first revealed the LF-FC at the Tokyo Motor Show, Lexus surprised everyone with its luxury sedan concept. Now, the model made its U.S. debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit and reminded everyone that the Japanese carmaker is still there, breathing down the rivals’ neck.
Just like Tokuo Fukuichi, Lexus International President, stated, “Lexus wants to surprise and evoke emotion with its distinctive design and forward-thinking technology. For us, it is more than just a car, and we should exceed conventional imagination. The LF-FC expresses our progressive luxury and high-tech vision of a not so distant future.

The Flagship Concept excites from the first glance with its fresh styling theme that embodies Lexus “L-finesse” design philosophy. The front’s centerpiece is the imposing grille with a new mesh design bordered by “L-shaped” daytime running lights (DRL). In the rear, freshly designed taillights follow the same floating theme as the DRL.

From every angle, the Flagship Concept looks more like a “four-door coupe,” revealing its sporty character, completed by the 21-inch aluminum wheels with carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) rims.

The theme goes further inside the car, where the luxurious cabin has been designed in two sections, top and bottom. The top gives the driver a feel of openness, allowing him or her to concentrate on the pure pleasure of driving. Lexus made sure that not only the person behind the wheel enjoys their time, and it designed the rear seats for the occupants to feel exactly the same. Thanks to a reclining feature and plenty of head and knee space, the passengers will love being driven in this car. High-quality aniline leather wrapping the seats, doors and dashboard completes the luxurious interior.

Maybe the best part of the interior is the advanced human-machine interface that can be operated by hand gestures without the need of touching the panel.

The LF-FC Flagship Concept is powered by a high output fuel cell system that energizes all four wheels. The precise torque distribution between front and rear wheels gives the 208.7-inch long car exceptional handling and road stability.

Because safety comes first, the Japanese carmaker fitted the LF-FC with automated driving technologies, such as elevated traffic environment recognition, prediction, and judgment functions.

What’s left now is to see how much of this groundbreaking design will make it into production as the future Lexus LS.
