Toyota may have made the RC F coupe a little heavier than the BMW M3, but the Japanese are not known for backing away from a fight, especially one that involves motorsport. Say hello to the brand new RC F GT3 race car that made its brilliant soundtrack heard for the first time at the Nurburgring this weekend.
Cars #54 Lexus Racing (Schweiz) and #55 Farnbacher Racing (Lichtenau) took to the track, looking furious. Both of them have even wider hips than the road going cars and massive wings on the back to add downforce.
In case you are German and the word "wider" seems too vague, know that the RC F GT3 is exactly 2,000 mm wide (78.7 inches), 1,270 mm high (50 inches) and 4,705 mm long (185.2 inches), having a 2,730 mm wheelbase.
However, we love the fact that the design remains based on the street car, conserving the unique black spindle grille and jeweled LED headlights. This sexy race machine is the best argument for buying a Lexus and enjoying it to the fullest, despite what the reviews say.
Since its debut in Tokyo last year, the RC F GT3 dropped off our radar altogether. But luckily, Nurburgring fanatics were on sight when it made its racing debut at the 5th round of VLN endurance racing.
What's under the bonnet? A tickled version of the road-going V8 engine. This just shows Lexus has the potential to build some fantastic-sounding cars. Maybe if the racing program is successful, the RC F might receive a lightweight limited edition model, like the LFA Nurburgring Edition from a few years ago. God knows it looks good in orange paint!
