Lexus Safety System + PCS capabilities
As Toyota is rolling in some new technology next year, most of it will also reach its Lexus luxury division. There’s no word of the new LED Array AHS going for the big L (although we’re pretty sure it will be adopted sooner or later) but the new active safety technology will surely be found on new Lexus cars along with the systems they were already offering.
These will come under the “Lexus Safety System +” package which integrates several of Lexus’ active safety technologies, all relying on a new millimeter-wave radar and a front facing camera to detect danger ahead and take action when the driver fails to do it.

The updated Lexus Safety System + will now come with the following features:
  • Pre-collision System with pedestrian detection function (PCS) - as the name suggest this system uses the radar and the camera to detect cars and pedestrians in the vicinity of your vehicle. It will activate an audio and visual alert in addition to brake assist to help prevent or mitigate collisions, followed by automatic braking if the driver isn’t reacting quick enough.
  • Lane Departure Alert (LDA) - uses the camera to detect white/yellow lane markings and if the vehicle starts to deviate from its lane, the LDA sounds the alarm, adds vibration to the steering wheel and if the car has Lane Keep Assist it will veer back in the center of the lane.
  • Automatic High Beam (AHB) - helps ensure excellent forward visibility during night driving. The front camera detects headlights of incoming traffic and the taillights of the cars ahead to automatically switch the high and low beams accordingly.
  • Radar Cruise Control - the millimeter-wave radar is used here to detect the cars ahead and determine their speed in order to adjust your’s and keep a safe distance. The camera detects vehicles entering or leaving the lane you’re driving in.

The new system aimed at further encouraging the uptake of safety technologies will start being offered on Lexus cars in 2015 and get featured on most models before 2017. We hope they fixed some glitches showed in this video here.
