Lifan had the X70 SUV prototype's launch in mind for some time now and took advantage of the Auto Shanghai 2015 to showcase the car that fills the gap between the Lifan X60 and the Lifan X80.
As a base engine, the Chinese company is using a 1.8-liter four-cylinder unit delivering around 150 HP, but other details about the SUV's specs are not available.

However, the car's price is estimated to settle between 100,000 yuan ($16,126) and 150,000 yuan ($24,189), but top-shelf versions could wear a price tag of 180,000 yuan ($29,029) at current exchange rates. At its core, the Lifan X70 concept is a mid-sized SUV that carries over design features from the Toyota FJ Cruiser, the Land Rover Discovery or the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

If Lifan decides to go ahead and gives the green light for production, the X70 model will come with a permanent all-wheel drive system and a range of diesel engines that will be used for export models.

We have to admit, seeing the X70 in the metal is not such a bad thing, since the prototype looks well-proportioned and pretty competent in terms of styling cues. Maybe it's because Lifan designers had already-established models to draw inspiration from, or maybe they found an efficient way of channeling creativity into something that doesn't look like a fridge on wheels.

Either way, if almost every big carmaker in the world is playing in the SUV league, there must be room for another player, right?

Lifan is also looking to invest into the development of electric cars and expand the already massive network comprising 80 fully-owned flagship stores, 300 dealers selling only the Lifan brand and 1,000 dealers that sell the Lifan products as well as other models coming from various carmakers.
