Lotus is celebrating 20 years of the Elise, an event that the British manufacturer didn’t want to let pass unnoticed. Therefore, a special model was created to be offered to the biggest fans of the brand. The Lotus Elise 20th Anniversary Edition has some aces up its sleeve.
Under the bonnet, the same 1.8-liter supercharged engine is used with no changes done to the power or torque diagrams. However, the car tips the scale at just 2,015 lbs (913 kg) which is 22 lbs (10 kg) lighter than the Elise S version it is based on.
134 HP and 160 Nm (118 lb-ft) of torque might not seem much, especially today when we have turbocharged plants making close to 1,000 HP in the higher hierarchies around the world. However, when the car weighs so little, the performance is more than enough.
Going from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in the Elise 20th Anniversary Edition model takes 4.6 seconds and the top speed is slated to be 145 mph (233 km/h).
Standard equipment for this special car includes lightweight black wheels, a lighter center console and sport seats wrapped in leather and Alcantara. On the ECU there’s now a new driving mode called Sport that, of course, increases throttle response and allows greater slip angles.
Only four colors will be on the table : Blue, Green, Yellow and Silver, all of them classics for the British brand. At the same time, some elements on the car will be contrasting with whatever you choose because the rear diffuser, wing mirrors, roll hoop cover and rear transom will be dressed in matte black no matter what.
Prices will start at £39,900 in the UK and the only options you can tick are a hardtop for £1,200, air conditioning for £1,250 and CD/Radio and USB connection and NVH Pack for £1,200. Other markets will have to wait a little longer if they’re ever to see the car for themselves. The US will most likely be left out altogether this time too, as it was the case with the regular Elise as well.
