Looking for an affordable extremely fun to drive car with strong racing roots? Look no further than Lotus’ dealerships soon as the automaker is introducing the Elise S Cup model in its lineup.
Following its extensive testing, the Elise S managed to get its Cup version which basically makes it 3 seconds faster on the Lotus’ Hethel test track through aerodynamic additions that increase downforce by 66 kg (145.5 lb) at 160 km/h (100 mph) and 125 kg (275 lb) at top speed.
“This engaging new model accentuates the pure driving competence elicited by Lotus. Light, agile and significantly faster on-track than the standard Elise S, it will appeal to competition-minded enthusiasts,” Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales said after the first S Cup rolled off the assembly line.
Developed both at Hethel and the Nurburgring, the Elise S Cup is inspired by the Cup R full-attack version and comes with a front splitter, side winglets, lateral bargeboards, a fixed roof, rear wing and a rear diffuser that really works, unlike the one you have on your hot hatch.
The engine remains the same 220 hp / 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) mill that pushes the car from nought to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.2 seconds en route to a top speed of 140 mph (225 km/h). Drive it like a sensible person and you’ll also get a 31 mpg US (37 mpg UK or 7.6 l/100 km) combined fuel consumption out of it.
Lotus dealerships are already waiting for orders, with the Elise S Cup starting at £43,500 in the UK and €56,525 in Germany.
