From 2012 onwards, Pagani Automobili S.p.A. built one of the most beautiful and best-performing mid-engined cars the world has ever seen. The Huayra is a techno showcase of all things fast and Italian, but the model is sold out. A Huayra Roadster is in the pipeline, but this isn’t it - this is the Huayra SE.
Our spy photographers caught this mysterious hypercar testing in Europe and boy you’ll love what Mr. Horacio Pagani is preparing. According to reports, 20 examples of the Pagani Huayra SE will be built before production of the Pagani Huayra Roadster will kick-off sometime next year.
SE stands, of course, for special edition. Reports are suggesting that the SE will go crazy in terms of aero wizardry in the form of a detachable body kit designed to produce more downforce when you’re on a racing circuit. On the spied prototype vehicle, the only visual difference compared to the standard Huayra appears to be the more dramatic front splitter, which is made of carbon fiber. Then there are the neon green-painted brake calipers that hide some secrets of their own.
Price-wise, the rumor mill is suggesting a €2.5 million price tag, which translates to almost $2.8 million. That’s almost double the price of a normal Pagani Huayra, which is saying something about the cashflow of the potential customer pool. So what’s the deal with the QR codes on the camouflage wrap? Well, they lead to three videos uploaded on the official Pagani website, showcasing the Huayra SE.
On the technical front, we’re able to tell that the quad-exhaust system of the prototype has larger-diameter pipes compared to the standard Huayra. In terms of grunt, it’s not known if the Mercedes-AMG-sourced 6-liter twin-turbo V12 will produce more than 730 HP and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of torque.
At the time of writing, it’s mum’s guess whether the 2016 Geneva Motor Show is going to be the place of unveiling for the Huayra SE or the Huayra Roadster, but one thing is certain - Pagani Automobili S.p.A. announced it will move into a larger production facility, which will go online this September.
