When you own a $8 million classic Ferrari of which only 55 units where ever created you could at least make sure that the person handling it really knows how to park a car. Not only will repairing it cost a lot of cash, but the problem is once it’s done the damage becomes part of the history of the car and could later affect its sale.
Neil Petch, the owner of the 1962 classic said he is “in shock” after he left the Dubai International Financial Center to find his rare beauty scratched by the valet who was supposed to park it in a safe place. The man was busy with a lunch meeting when a friend called him asking if anything happened to his car lately. At first, the Ferrari owner thought his pal is trying to pull a prank on him.
“I thought he was playing a prank. But he told me I better get down there. And then I saw it...” Petch told 7Days. As the parking company later confirmed the accident, a representative told the source that the valet made the mistake of putting his foot on the accelerator instead of the brake, thus causing the accident.
Problem is, the Dhs 2,500 ($680) per month salary the driver is earning won’t be much of a help since fixing the car will sure cost a lot more. But Petch said the company has assured him there’s going to be a compensation for the repairs, which most likely means they will cover the expenses.
We’ll remind you that a record price for a 250 GT at auction was set on May 18, 2008 when a black 1961 unit that had been owned by James Coburn was sold for £5.5 million ($8,32 million) to radio DJ, Chris Evans.
